We love fireplaces. The Outside Guy is a stone and brick mason who built many of the “real” wood-burning fireplaces and chimneys throughout his career. Arguably, many of these creations are works of art in the home that have served as centerpieces for familial gatherings for decades. There is little to compare with the smell and comfort gleaned from a natural wood fire in the family room.
Our ancestors built some early fireplaces with sticks, any available rocks and baked clay mud. Kitchens, which used such constructions for baking, were often built separate from the main home due to the threat of fire.
