Gary J. Foreman, cofounder of Rockstar Games – the hit factory behind best-selling titles like “Grand Theft Auto” and “Red Dead Redemption” – recently raised $2 million for his new startup Stakester.
Founded in 2019 alongside Tom Fairey, previously a senior exec at AI startup Quantexa, Stakester lets gamers wager their money by placing bets against one another while they play online. The firm’s seed round is led by RTP Global, which previously invested in doorbell firm Ring and Russian search giant Yandex.
Since launching properly last May, the firm has attracted more than 15,000 players placing bets while playing games such as “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” and “FIFA 21.”
Insider got an exclusive look at the straight-talking pitch deck Foreman and Fairey used to bring investors on board, which outlines the firm’s philosophy as: “Back yourself. You are f***ing awesome. You play hard, you deserve to get paid…hard.”
