There is a heavily dented garage door in Kitchener, Ont., that holds the secret to Mike Hoffman’s ability to shoot the puck with accuracy, speed and force.

It’s not a new hockey story. Some players have used appliances as their target. Other players famously fired lead pucks at a wall to strengthen their wrists. A very great many have damaged garage doors.

These days the new “hot” stick on the Senators belongs to Hoffman, and a player who was “on the bubble” to make the team at the start of this year is suddenly surrounded by a media pack. That certainly was the case early Saturday afternoon in the Ottawa dressing room after the daily workout.

Hoffman now has seven goals this season, with most of them coming in the past six games. He is also the left-winger on the Kid Line that has been a very good news story for the Senators this…
