 Interior DIY inspiration as Co Antrim couple transform unused small space in lockdown project

Many of us have that one little space in our homes that we can’t really do much with, but one Co Antrim couple have transformed their unused cloakroom into an additional toilet.

Beauty salon owner Tara Smyth was fed up with only having one toilet in her home, especially as the only female in the house with her husband, son and stepson.

Having moved into their bungalow situated between Lisburn and Belfast two years ago, Tara instantly saw the cloakroom space as a DIY project waiting to be explored. But with plumbing an issue she thought it wouldn’t be possible to get that extra toilet in the home.

But thanks to husband Lionel’s expertise as a plumber, the couple made the space into a beautifully finished extra toilet, and they did it on a budget.

She told Be : “Luckily my husband is a plumber so that was really helpful and he had the units and sink from a job a couple of years ago, however, it was his first time putting down flooring and my first time ever papering so while he is a professional, we are also DIYers as we were doing things for the first time.

The 48-year-old said she is delighted with how their project turned out and wanted to ensure they were as budget friendly as possible.

“We spent roughly £350 on the cloakroom renovation, that was mainly spent on a new toilet, a macerator and wallpaper. I used paint that I already had and we had flooring left over from another job. The pictures were some that were hung elsewhere and I brought them together to…
