 DIY SOS Tonia Cheney’s appeal for paramedic who saved her life but now faces own cancer battle

DIY SOS Tonia Cheney is appealing for people to support a fund-raising campaign for a sick paramedic who saved her life.

Tonia suffers from a rare condition and in 2015 her plight tugged the heartstrings of the nation when Nick Knowles and a small army of volunteers transformed her home so she could come home from hospital after three years of being bed-bound.

But that’s not been the end of her medical problems and over the years Christine Gill, aged 53, has either been on the other end of the 999 call or trained other medics about Tonia’s needs.

Now Tonia has found out that Christine, who featured in the BBC series Ambulance, was diagnosed with Stage 4 junction oesophageal cancer in March.

It has now spread to a lymph node and she has been told that surgery and radiotherapy are not options under the NHS, only chemotherapy as part of palliative care.
