Keeping everything in check inside our home is a challenging task for most of us.

There is a need to consider many things such as the overall style of the space and the condition of home appliances.

Devices such as HVAC systems are essential and common in most homes.

It gives us comfort during the hot weather and keeps us warm when it’s cold.

As a homeowner, we must be familiar with the parts of our air conditioner as well as the ways in which we can maintain them.

There are some words that we are going to run into on a daily basis especially if we’re new to the field of commercial HVAC systems.

We’ll take a look at some of these words in this commercial HVAC Maintenance Glossary to help us get more familiar with the different types:


The accumulator protects the components of the air conditioner.

It is situated between the evaporator outlet and the compressor suction port on the low-pressure side of the circuit.

The accumulator performs numerous roles such as:

  1. Providing security for compressors and avoiding compressor failure due to liquid slugging
  2. Retain the system’s moisture and toxin
  3. Maintaining the flow of oil and ensuring that only the cooling system returns to the compressor.

AFUE (Annual Fuel Efficiency Ratio)

The energy consumption of each heating system is calculated by AFUE (furnace or boiler).

It indicates how much fuel is used to heat the home as opposed to how much energy is lost by exhaust fuel.
